Evidence Based Birth®
By taking the Evidence Based Birth® Childbirth Class, you and your partner will not only learn the evidence for your birth options in an online class, but you’ll also be mentored by an experienced instructor and meet other parents in the Long Beach area who are going through pregnancy and birth just like you!
Who should take this class?
Anyone who wants the confidence, education, and tools to have an empowered birth being mentored by your own Evidence Based Birth® Instructor, Meredith Bowling.
Hi, my name is Meredith Bowling and I'm an Evidence Based Birth® Instructor.
An Evidence Based Birth® Instructor is a birth professional specially trained in the latest, proven evidence to ensure the highest standard of childbirth care is delivered. I trained to become an Evidence Based Birth® Instructor because I believe the every woman deserves a positive, respectful and safe experience during birth. Sadly, this is not a reality for numerous women. I believe that evidence based care unites the provider and the client, humanizing birth and opening respectful and productive communication.

When should I take this class?
You are welcomed to take this class any time that is convenient for you. Private classes are scheduled to your convenience because I understand crazy life schedules. Count back 3 months from your due date and ask yourself f this is enough learning time and is a class available around that time. If not, consider the 6 month option and schedule your class sooner. The class stretches 6 weeks so you don't want to end to close to your due date. I suggest you leave about 3 weeks to process the information and plan for the big day.
Can't I just educate myself online using search engines and videos?
A lot of that info you find online? It's bad or inaccurate! The benefit of the Evidence Based Birth® Childbirth Class is that we curate all of the best, evidence-based information and get you and your partner engaged in the learning process.
Shouldn't I just let the doctors and nurses tell me what to do?
Routine practices in some hospitals are still about 15 to 20 years behind the research, and there is a lot of pressure to conform to traditions that might not be in your best interests. We will teach you and your partner how to be your own advocate - a skill you can use for the rest of your life!
My friends told me that taking a childbirth class is a waste of time.
There are a lot of poor-quality classes out there that have given childbirth education a bad reputation. The founder of Evidence Based Birth®, Rebecca Dekker, PhD, RN, APRN, knows how to make classes exciting for young adults. The end result is a class that is motivating and SO much fun to participate in. You will learn more than you could ever imagine!
What will I actually learn in this class that could be of use to me?
Our students are most excited to learn about the entire toolkit of comfort measures for labor. We cover pain management techniques like massage, water immersion, upright birthing positions, acupressure, music therapy, and deep breathing, just to name a few. When labor starts, you and your partner will be ready!
